Arctic Ice Fishing in Hemavan

Depending on the conditions, we’ll head out on snowshoes or skis for a short tour to one of the lakes close to Hemavan, surrounded by snow-covered mountains. We’ll time our trip to catch the first rays of sunlight in the morning or the last light of the day. This is when the mysterious Arctic char can become particularly active, giving us a better chance of catching a fish.

The Arctic char is perfectly adapted to life in extreme cold and can live for up to 30 years. Just imagine their strength: surviving beneath up to a metre of ice for six to eight months of the year.

On this private tour, you’ll get to try ice fishing for yourself while learning how to find fish and use the right techniques to catch them. And because we don’t use snowmobiles, getting to the lake is part of the experience. We travel quietly through the winter landscape, away from the crowds.

Once we’ve found our spot, we’ll drill a hole through the ice, set up our fishing gear and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Afterwards, gather around the campfire with your guide for some traditional Swedish fika and a warm drink before heading back to Hemavan.
